Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – My Tho – Tra Vinh (Cycling the Mekong Delta)

Your unforgettable cycling holiday through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos begins with a morning pick-up by our local guide and driver at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. After a comfortable 2-hour transfer to My Tho, the gateway to the Mekong Delta, we arrive at our cycling starting point.

Here, you’ll be fitted with your bike and given a comprehensive safety briefing before setting off on your first day of cycling. A short ferry ride across the Tien River marks the start of your journey into the heart of the rural Mekong Delta, a region famous for its lush greenery, winding waterways, and traditional villages.

Your ride today takes you along a scenic mix of paved countryside roads and charming off-road trails. Pedal through verdant rice fields, rustic hamlets, and alongside narrow canals. The route includes quiet gravel and dirt paths shaded by coconut palms and banana trees, offering an immersive experience of local life in Southern Vietnam.

Later in the day, you’ll cross the wide Cochien River by ferry before arriving in Tra Vinh, a tranquil, tree-lined town with a rich Khmer cultural heritage. It’s the perfect place to unwind after your first day of cycling in Vietnam.

Day 2: Tra Vinh – Vinh Long – Can Tho (Exploring the Heart of the Mekong by Bike)

After breakfast, we continue with a short scenic boat ride that takes us to Vinh Long, one of the Mekong Delta’s most famous fruit-producing towns. Known for its fertile soil and vibrant orchards, Vinh Long is a perfect starting point for another immersive day of biking.

Today’s ride takes us deep into the countryside, along a patchwork of narrow village lanes, peaceful dirt tracks, and shaded trails. You’ll cycle through lush fruit orchards, past colorful stilted homes, and along the quiet banks of winding canals. The route offers a truly authentic look into delta life, where friendly locals greet you with warm smiles and curious children wave as you pass.

A highlight of the day includes crossing narrow waterways aboard a traditional local sampan, a quintessential Mekong Delta experience. The ride continues to the ferry terminal, where a relaxing boat trip carries us across the broad Co Chien River. From here, it’s a short, final ride into Can Tho, the bustling heart of the delta and home to Vietnam’s most famous floating market.

Day 3: Can Tho – Cai Rang Floating Market – Long Xuyen (Cycling Through Delta Culture & Industry)

After an early breakfast, your cycling tour through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos begins today with a captivating boat trip to the renowned Cai Rang Floating Market, the largest and most vibrant of its kind in the Mekong Delta. Here, you’ll witness a bustling scene of boats trading fresh produce, local snacks, and daily essentials, an unforgettable glimpse into traditional delta commerce.

From the floating market, we disembark and begin cycling along a narrow paved route that follows the Phong Dien River. This morning’s ride immerses you in the pulse of riverside life, weaving through busy local markets, rustic dockyards, timber workshops, and small-scale industries like coconut shredding and rice processing. It’s a lively ride packed with authentic experiences and constant activity.

After cycling to the main road, we transfer by vehicle back to Can Tho for a well-earned lunch.

In the afternoon, we set off again by bike along a peaceful rural road leading upstream toward Long Xuyen. This stretch is more tranquil, offering sweeping views of rice paddies, palm-lined canals, and everyday village life. Day 4: Long Xuyen – Chau Doc (Cycling Near the Cambodian Border)

Today brings a dramatic shift in scenery as your cycling tour through Vietnam and Cambodia enters the borderlands. After breakfast, we take a short transfer to Tri Ton, where the day’s cycling begins. As you pedal westward, the flat delta terrain gives way to gentle hills, and the distant That Son (Seven Mountains) range starts to rise on the horizon — a stunning visual change that signals your approach to the Cambodian border.

Along the way, you’ll notice the iconic Thot Not palm trees, unique to this region, and begin to experience a cultural blend where many locals speak Khmer or Cham as their first language, with Vietnamese as a second. The ride is a fascinating journey through landscapes and identities that differ markedly from earlier days.

This afternoon, a sobering but powerful stop awaits at the Ba Chuc Memorial — the site of a horrific massacre in 1978, where over 3,000 Vietnamese civilians were killed by the Khmer Rouge. This poignant visit offers a deeper understanding of the region’s complex history.

Depending on road conditions, the route either continues in a loop from Ba Chuc to Chau Doc, tracing a scenic stretch along the border, or returns via Tri Ton for a beautiful ride along quiet country roads.

For those with extra energy, an optional climb up Sam Mountain near Chau Doc offers panoramic sunset views over Vietnam and Cambodia — a rewarding end to a meaningful day.

Day 5: Chau Doc – Phnom Penh (Boat Journey into Cambodia & Sunset Cruise on the Mekong River)

This morning, your Cycling Holidays Vietnam Cambodia and Laos experience takes to the water as we begin the next phase of our cross-border adventure. After a short transfer to the Mekong River dock, we say farewell to our Vietnamese crew and board a speedboat ferry to Phnom Penh, crossing the international border from Vinh Xuong (Vietnam) to Kaam Samnor (Cambodia).

The 4-hour journey along the majestic Mekong River offers a relaxing and immersive window into daily river life. As the boat glides past floating houses, fish farms, and riverside villages, you’ll witness the evolving landscapes and cultures that line the banks of one of Southeast Asia’s most vital waterways.

Upon arrival at the boat pier in Phnom Penh, you will be greeted by your Cambodian guide and transferred to your comfortable hotel in the capital. The afternoon is yours to relax, settle in, or explore at your own pace.

As the sun begins to set, we regroup for a sunset river cruise along the Phnom Penh riverfront. Day 6: Phnom Penh City Tour (Royal Palace & Khmer Rouge History)

Today is dedicated to exploring the rich cultural and historical layers of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s vibrant capital. This guided city tour offers a powerful contrast between the grandeur of Cambodia’s royal heritage and the sobering legacy of its recent past.

Your morning begins at the magnificent Royal Palace, one of Phnom Penh’s most iconic landmarks, majestically situated at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap Rivers. Built in 1866 by King Norodom, the complex still serves as the official residence of the King. Explore the ornate Coronation Hall, the Royal Dance Pavilion, and the Silver Pagoda, famed for its gleaming floor covered with over 5,000 pure silver tiles, each weighing one kilogram.

In the afternoon, your focus shifts to Cambodia’s turbulent 20th-century history. Begin at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), a former high school turned into a secret prison and torture center during the Khmer Rouge regime. The haunting photographs and testimonies presented here serve as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed under Pol Pot’s rule. Please be advised: the content is emotionally intense and may be distressing.

Next, a short drive brings you to Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields, where more than 17,000 Cambodians were executed and buried in mass graves during the Khmer Rouge era. Though the pits have faded, a towering stupa filled with over 8,000 human skulls stands as a solemn and moving memorial to the victims.

Return to your hotel for a reflective evening and overnight stay in Phnom Penh.

  • Hotel: (Included)

Day 7: Phnom Penh – Siem Reap (Rural Cycling Through Hidden Cambodia)

This morning, we continue our journey deeper into Cambodia as your Cycling Holidays Vietnam Cambodia and Laos adventure moves toward one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic destinations: Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor.

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred by van to the quiet town of Kampong Kdei, located in Siem Reap Province. This region is rich in rural charm and historical depth and remarkably untouched by tourism, offering a truly authentic Cambodian cycling experience.

From Kampong Kdei, begin your ride along peaceful, tree-shaded red dirt roads that wind through a mosaic of traditional villages and rice fields. This stretch of countryside is both scenic and serene, with smiling locals and curious children waving as you pass by.

Along the way, we stop at Makak Water Reservoir, a significant yet little-known site constructed during the Khmer Rouge era. This reservoir is not only an engineering remnant of Pol Pot’s regime but also a place where survivors still visit to reflect on the past, making this stop both a historical and human connection to Cambodia’s recent history.

The ride today is relatively gentle but deeply immersive, offering a unique perspective of Cambodian life far from the usual tourist trails. After completing the cycling portion, we transfer the final stretch by van to Siem Reap, where you’ll settle in for the night in preparation for your visit to the temples of Angkor.

From here, continue cycling to the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire Angkor Thom. After your morning ride through the spiritual and architectural wonders of the Khmer empire, enjoy a traditional Cambodian lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, the journey continues with an in-depth visit to the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world and a symbol of Cambodia. Take time to explore its grand galleries, towers, and intricate bas-reliefs that depict scenes from Hindu epics and Khmer history.

Today’s cycling adventure takes you beyond the temples and into the heart of Cambodia’s countryside. Pedal through scenic rural landscapes on quiet backroads as you make your way from Siem Reap to Kampong Phluk, a traditional fishing village on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake.

Along the ride, you’ll pass the Rolous Group temples, some of the earliest permanent structures built during the Angkor period, dating back to the 9th century. These lesser-visited ruins were once part of Hariharalaya, one of the first Khmer capitals.

Your destination, Kampong Phluk, offers a rare glimpse into authentic Cambodian life. Here, entire communities live in stilted homes and floating villages, adapting ingeniously to the rhythm of the lake’s rising and falling waters. A boat trip on Tonle Sap takes you through mangrove forests and local waterways, providing an intimate look at traditional fishing techniques, floating schools, and how locals sustain their livelihoods.

This morning, your cycling adventure through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos continues with a journey back in time. We begin with a scenic 2-hour transfer from Siem Reap to Kampong Kdei, where you’ll visit the remarkable 12th-century Naga Bridge, one of the best-preserved ancient stone bridges from the Angkor period.

In the afternoon, we arrive in the riverside town of Kampong Cham, known for its relaxed charm and colonial architecture. Money & Currency Tips for Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos
  • Vietnam: The official national currency is the Vietnam Dong, but the US dollar is widely accepted in tourist centers. However, in smaller towns and villages the Dong is preferred. ATMs are available in all major tourist destinations and big cities. Vietcombank has the best network with a single withdrawal limit of 2,000,000d (about US$125). Most major currencies can be exchanged at leading banks in Vietnam, but the US dollar is preferred away from the tourist centers. Changing US$100 will make you an instant millionaire! You cannot legally take the dong out of Vietnam but you can reconvert reasonable amounts of it into US dollars on departure.

  • Cambodia: US dollars and Thai baht are used extensively in cities. Cambodian riel is typically used in smaller towns. ATMs are common, and most dispense US dollars. You may need to use riel in rural areas.

  • Laos: The official currency of Laos is the Lao kip, though US dollars and Thai baht are widely accepted in larger towns and cities. In smaller villages, kip is the primary currency used. While ATMs are available in some areas, they are not as widespread or reliable as in Cambodia. Be sure to spend or exchange all your kip before leaving, as it cannot be exchanged outside of Laos.

Solo Traveller

Solo travelers are welcome on our tour! While our prices are based on twin-sharing accommodation, we will pair you with another solo traveler of the same gender. If you prefer a private room, this option is available at an additional cost.
