This is the beginning of an unforgettable journey through Vietnam and Cambodia, combining cycling for charity with cultural exploration.
After a delicious breakfast, we set off from Ho Chi Minh City and enjoy a scenic drive of a couple of hours to Mytho, the gateway to the Mekong Delta. Upon arrival, we’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant, offering a taste of the region’s traditional flavors. Then, it’s time to hop on our bikes and venture into the heart of the rural Mekong Delta.
The day’s cycling will take you along narrow roads and quiet lanes, passing through vibrant banana plantations, vast fields of sugar cane, and lush, green landscapes that define the delta. You’ll cross multiple rivers and canals, using the region’s iconic ferries, which are an integral part of the Mekong experience. A section of the route includes off-road cycling on gravel and dirt tracks, weaving through small hamlets, water channels, and dense, quiet vegetation. As we pedal through charming, tree-lined towns with a large population of ethnic Khmer, you’ll get a glimpse into the peaceful, rural life of southern Vietnam. After a rewarding day of cycling, we arrive in Travinh for a well-earned rest at a local hotel.
After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, we begin the day with a short and scenic boat trip to Vinhlong, a renowned fruit town in the Mekong Delta. Once we arrive, we’ll hop on our bikes and cycle along peaceful narrow country lanes, easy dirt tracks, and winding trails. Today’s ride is a true Mekong experience, cycling through tiny orchards, enjoying the vibrant, colorful life along the riverside, and pedaling past picturesque delta homes. Along the way, we’ll have opportunities to stop and chat with the friendly locals, and cross countless wooden bridges, which are characteristic of the region.
The cycling distance today is short, allowing us ample time to explore side tracks and trails at a leisurely pace, offering a fantastic introduction to the “heart of the Mekong”. After a rewarding day of cycling and exploration, we’ll arrive in the bustling town of Cantho, where we’ll stay overnight at a local hotel, resting for the next leg of our adventure.
Today is an exciting and action-packed day as we journey from Cantho to Chau Doc, a vibrant border town nestled along the Mekong River. We begin early with a boat trip to visit the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta, where local traders and farmers sell seasonal fruits, creating a unique cultural experience. The bustling market provides a fascinating glimpse into the life and commerce of the delta.
After exploring the market, we continue cycling along peaceful village roads, enjoying the scenic beauty of the Mekong Delta. The ride offers an intimate view of rural life in the delta, surrounded by lush landscapes and traditional villages. After cycling, we take a bus transfer to Long Xuyen for a lunch break before continuing our journey. Following lunch, we have another two-hour transfer before reaching the Tra Su National Park, a stunning mangrove forest. Here, we embark on a boat trip to explore the unique biodiversity of the park, known for its lush green waters and rich wildlife. Afterward, we complete the day with a final transfer to Chau Doc for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, we transfer by bus for approximately 20 kilometers to the Vietnam-Cambodia land border, where our friendly Cambodian team will be waiting to welcome us. Once across the border, we begin cycling through the picturesque rural landscapes of Cambodia, experiencing the peaceful countryside that offers a glimpse into Cambodian life.
We continue our journey to the small town of Takeo, where we board the bus for the remainder of the trip to Phnom Penh, stopping en route to visit the infamous Killing Fields, one of Cambodia’s most significant historical sites. Here, we reflect on the country’s tragic past and pay our respects to the lives lost during the Khmer Rouge regime.
After this emotional visit, we continue on to Phnom Penh, a city once known as one of the most beautiful in the Orient. Despite its turbulent recent history, Phnom Penh retains its colonial charm, with a fascinating mix of historic buildings and vibrant culture. We arrive at our hotel for an overnight stay, ready to rest and explore the city further the following day.
We begin the day with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Museum (also known as S21), a former school that was transformed into a Khmer Rouge interrogation camp during the Pol Pot regime. This historical site serves as a somber reminder of Cambodia’s tragic past, and provides a deeper understanding of the country’s journey to healing.
After the museum visit, we transfer for 45 minutes to the starting point of today’s cycling journey along the scenic Tonle Sap River. The ride offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in the peaceful beauty of Cambodia’s rural countryside, with vibrant green fields and traditional villages. We stop for lunch in Kampong Trolanch, a quiet town offering a glimpse into daily life along the river.
In the afternoon, we continue cycling through some of the most beautiful countryside in Cambodia, heading toward Kampong Chhnang. This area is known for its tranquil landscapes and unique floating villages on the Tonle Sap Lake. After a fulfilling day of cycling, we enjoy a delicious dinner and settle in for an overnight stay in Kampong Chhnang.
After breakfast at the hotel, we set off on our cycling journey to Battambang, Cambodia’s second-largest city and one of its hidden gems. The ride offers a captivating experience through lush rural landscapes, with opportunities to interact with local communities along the way.
Unlike the more tourist-trodden destinations, Battambang has only recently opened up to the outside world. This relative isolation has preserved much of its original charm, including some of the best-preserved French colonial architecture in Cambodia. As we cycle into the city, you’ll notice its quiet charm and welcoming atmosphere.
The local people here are incredibly friendly and curious, as many have had limited contact with international visitors. This creates a wonderful opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange, where you’ll find that the interest is mutual. After a day of rewarding cycling and connection, we arrive in Battambang for dinner and an overnight stay.
This morning, we begin the day with a scenic boat ride across Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. As we cruise across this vital ecological hotspot, you’ll witness the peaceful daily life of floating fishing communities, along with a rich diversity of bird and aquatic life. It’s a serene and memorable way to take a break from the saddle and appreciate the natural wonders of Cambodia’s heartland.
Upon arrival at Chong Kneas, just south of Siem Reap, we disembark and begin our final cycling leg of the journey. Riding along quiet, tree-lined roads through traditional villages and unspoiled countryside, we experience the authentic rural charm of northern Cambodia. This final ride offers time to reflect on the incredible journey while taking in the tranquil surroundings before arriving in Siem Reap, the gateway to the ancient temples of Angkor. After checking into our hotel, we enjoy a well-deserved rest in one of Cambodia’s most iconic cities.
You’ll begin pedaling toward the Angkor Archaeological Park via the Angkor Pass checkpoint, your gateway to one of the world’s greatest cultural treasures.
As you cycle along scenic, shaded backroads (with occasional gentle bumps), the adventure unfolds with visits to a series of remarkable temples: Prasat Kravan, Banteay Kdei, Ta Prohm. From here, continue cycling to the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire Angkor Thom. Enter through the South Gate, a monumental stone arch carved with elephant motifs and four giant serene faces include Bayon Temple, Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King.
After your morning ride through the spiritual and architectural wonders of the Khmer empire, enjoy a traditional Cambodian lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, the journey continues with an in-depth visit to the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world and a symbol of Cambodia. Take time to explore its grand galleries, towers, and intricate bas-reliefs that depict scenes from Hindu epics and Khmer history.
As the day winds down, cycle back and return to your hotel, filled with unforgettable memories from one of the most iconic days.
After breakfast, we begin a meaningful final day of our Charity Cycling Vietnam to Cambodia journey. You’ll be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, where we will present the funds raised throughout our ride. This visit offers a powerful opportunity to see the direct impact of your efforts, as we tour the hospital, meet with staff, and learn more about the essential care they provide to local children.
It’s a touching and inspiring way to conclude our adventure, giving back to the community and celebrating the purpose behind every kilometer pedaled. After the hospital visit, the afternoon is free to relax or explore Siem Reap at your leisure.
You will be led by one of our experienced local cycling guides. For groups with fewer than 5 participants, we will have one English-speaking cycling guide and a driver. For larger groups (6 or more), we’ll provide a Cycling Tour Leader, an additional English-speaking guide, and extra drivers and assistants.
Our guides are passionate about Cambodia’s culture, history, and religion, providing insightful commentary throughout your journey. Whether exploring remote villages or ancient temples, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the rich history of Southeast Asia firsthand.
We provide top-quality mountain bikes for all our cyclists. If you have your own bike, we recommend ensuring it’s fully serviced before the tour. Our guides carry a reliable toolkit and are skilled in basic bike repairs during the trip. However, some advanced repairs may require specialized tools.
A backup vehicle will accompany the group at all times, providing security and comfort. This vehicle will carry your luggage and offer a ride if you need assistance during the ride. It will stop roughly every 15 kilometers, ensuring that you can rest, hydrate, and enjoy the scenery.
Your safety is our top priority. Wearing a helmet is mandatory on all rides. If you choose not to wear a helmet, you won’t be permitted to cycle. All of our guides are trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but we encourage all cyclists to be mindful of their own safety during the ride.
The terrain is varied, mainly flat and follows by the mixture of tarmac roads and dirt roads passing the countryside & rural village. You will cycle on back roads with lovely open landscapes and leisurely with plenty of stops in every 15km to enjoy snack and drink or taking photos. Our guides can also easily accommodate any type riders, in case you would not be able to complete the distance you would be able to jump into the support vehicle.
The tour is designed to accommodate cyclists of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned riders. It’s not a race—everyone is encouraged to cycle at their own pace. While the route is physically demanding, you can always hop into the support vehicle if you need a break. We want everyone to enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
Since the tour involves moderate physical exertion, it’s important that you’re in good physical health. Please inform your guide of any pre-existing medical conditions before the trip, and if you feel unwell at any point, let the guide know immediately. Your safety and well-being are our priority.
We take hydration seriously. During the tour, we’ll provide cold water, locally sourced fruit, and soft drinks to keep you energized. Meals are not inclusive of soft drinks or alcoholic beverages, though beer is widely available at many stops throughout the journey. Beer is not included in the tour price.
Our tour includes most major expenses. We recommend bringing about US$30 for incidentals like souvenirs, additional drinks, or optional activities. Any extra activities or food outside the itinerary will be at your own cost.
Vietnam: The official national currency is the Vietnam Dong, but the US dollar is widely accepted in tourist centers. However, in smaller towns and villages the Dong is preferred. ATMs are available in all major tourist destinations and big cities. Vietcombank has the best network with a single withdrawal limit of 2,000,000d (about US$125). Most major currencies can be exchanged at leading banks in Vietnam, but the US dollar is preferred away from the tourist centers. Changing US$100 will make you an instant millionaire! You cannot legally take the dong out of Vietnam but you can reconvert reasonable amounts of it into US dollars on departure.
Cambodia: US dollars and Thai baht are used extensively in cities. Cambodian riel is typically used in smaller towns. ATMs are common, and most dispense US dollars. You may need to use riel in rural areas.
Solo travelers are welcome on our tour! While our prices are based on twin-sharing accommodation, we will pair you with another solo traveler of the same gender. If you prefer a private room, this option is available at an additional cost.
